Miss Long's 6th Grade!
About Me...
My name is Jerika Long and I am a first year teacher here at Bluffs Elementary. I am originally from Jerseyville, IL. Along with teaching 6th grade I am also the Jr. High Volleyball Coach.
I attended Illinois College in Jacksonville for my Bachelor’s Degree in Education and an endorsement in English. I was also involved in Residential Life, Tomorrow’s Teachers, Homecoming Committee, Up til’ Dawn, and worked as a Student Athletic Trainer. I played college volleyball for one year and intramurals for the other three. I love to make teaching different, especially when it comes to technology. I was that student that did not like to sit and hear lectures, or read all of the time. Therefore, my goal is to always attempt to do and try new strategies in teaching. I respect differences in how students learn and enjoy taking their ideas and using them in the curriculum. Connection with families is important to me and the success of my students. I am always sending out emails updating parents on upcoming events, test, and other options for the students. I try to make my self available as much as possible for contact if parents or students have any questions, comments or concerns! | Class Schedule:8:05- BLAAST (Math)

We will be working hard to prepare the class for Jr. High which is a new experience. Please encouarage your student to stay on top of assignments and practice good behavior!!! Those assignments not turned in completed and on time will result in an after school detention.
*ISAT testing is approaching quickly! Please look for information sent home about the weeks of testing and how you can prepare your student. *FieldDay is planned for May 22nd and we will be selling T-shirts for the event. Each grade will have a different color to wear on the day of the event. Pricing and info will be sent home shortly! School Work:Every Student is different therefore, it is hard to compile one main plan for maintaining students and turning in their work. However, if your student is absent or you know that they will be missing PLEASE, request the homework so that your child may start on the make up work. You may always email me or call the schools office to let us know when to have the work ready. I will need at least 20 mintues to gather it, depending on what is going on that day.
Also, I like to believe that I have trust in all of my students so that if they forget an assignment at home but tell me it is finished , I can rely on them to have it to me the next morning. Some students simply just do not complete their work. This usually results in loosing recess or some P.E time. If this is a continuous issue however, other plans may be arranged. |
