Welcome to the Bluffs' BlueJay Volleyball page. We are excited to be able to share events and updates with people who are interested. Our 2011-2012 season is on it's way. The girls have been working like crazy to master skills and become one united team! As the season progresses we will keep the site updated with changing practices, games, fundrasing, pictures and anything else we can think of to share!

Meet the Coach

   My name is Jerika Long and I am the 6th grade teacher & Jr. High Volleyball coach at Bluffs Elementary. I am originally from Jerseyville, IL and now living near by in Jacksonville.  

   I am a 2011 graduate of  Illinois College where I earned my degree in Education and an endorsement in English. I was also involved in Residential Life, Tomorrow’s Teachers, Homecoming Committee, Up til’ Dawn, and worked as a Student Athletic Trainer. I played college volleyball for one year and intramurals for the other three. I have also worked as a student Athletic Trainer for IC.

    I have helped coach volleyball since I was a sophomore in highschool as well as, played on teams since I was in 7th grade. I am huge on team work, honesty, and effort. There is no "I" in team! I believe that each girl plays an important role to the team in one way or another. I'm excited to be here and see what we can accomplish as a team this season!

NEXT GAMES-  Feb. 23 @ OSS J'ville 6:15
-Dinner afterwards in Jacksonville!

NOTE: PRACTICES 4:00-5:45 @ BLUFFS DAILY-bus leaves 30min prior

REGIONALS: 7th grade (5th seed), Monday, Feb 27 @ 6:00pm
vs. North Greene @ Rushville Middle School.
-IF they win, we will be playing Tuesday, Feb 28 @ 6:00pm same place.

Feb. 24 & 25 & March 2 & 3: Volleyball will be doing a 50/50 ticket raffle at the 4, 5, & 6th grade basketball tourney. The girls are expected to work an hour, there will be no school transportation. I do need an adult or two to run the Saturday dates. Please let me know if you can help me out!

*For home games there will be a bus that picks up at Winchester to bring the team over together, but it is up to the players and families to get themselves home after.
*For away games players will be dropped off at their school after the games. They are only allowed to ride with parents from away games if signed out. If there is an emergency situation, Principle Filson must be notified prior.
*The team is to follow guidelines stated in the Bluffs School Handbook or rules of the head coach.

Us So Far!

     This season, 7th grade started off a little slow. However, after having a few games under our belts and a few intense practices the girls have formed into a true team. From our first game to now they have started playing a good game of volleyball turning into a competitive team. It has been so exciting to see them transform and I can't wait to see how they continue to grow.
    Walking into this position I was warned that the 8th graders were extremely talented and completive, they just weren't sure how to use it. My first night of practice with them I was in "aw" at the difference of what I've experienced in other schools and to them. This group of girls thrives to be better than the day before. They take what a coach tells them and use it.
   As a team we discuss what went wrong in the game before, how to fix the passes that shanked and always make sure to have a laugh. We all understand that each of us has our "off" nights but as long as we are open and honest we can work around it still playing "OUR GAME" and no one elses. 
     *Don't tell us anything is impossible when there are foot prints on the moon!   LET’S GO BLUFFS!
